What we do during the rainy season

We are in the middle of rainy season, which makes me gloomy. But I also know that we need rain, otherwise we are going to be suffered from water shortage during summer time.

Before the rainy season had started, we collected June berry.

In Japan, this berry is not common. We collected them in the park we often visit near our house.
I made jam out of them. I think I did well because they were fresh-picked June berry.

A few days later, I bought Ume, or Japanese apricot in order to make Umeboshi (pickled Ume).

I heard lots of foreigners love Japanese food, but there are some they don't like. I think that Umeboshi is typically the one of delicacies in Japan, which foreigners would say, 'No thank you'. Even many Japanese youngsters don't like it these days. Umeboshi is extremely sour, but it is said to have effective antiseptic properties. We put it in your lunch box, or in a rice ball.
So.....What about Satolela papa ? Does he eat it?
The answer is YES.
I often feel that his previous life must have been Japanese. He loves Umeboshi and Natto which is the other one which many foreigners would say, 'No thank you'.
His friends are amazed to know he loves them.
Sometimes he asked me to bring a Natto package at dinner table.

Speaking of Satolela papa, he sometimes bakes pancakes.
In this time, he collected Cattail pollen from the yard next door.

Cattail pollen pancakes taste very light and fluffy, which is depends on how much you are going to mix with corn flour. We ate with June berry jam and maple syrup. Uhhhhhhhhhhhm .....Yummy!

Gloomy rainy season.....but...
It doesn't rain all the time
, and sometimes the weather is nice.
On such a day, we get out of our house and visit some parks or stroll around near our house.

One day, we found big flowers. It is a tree to call Taisan-boku, or Bull bay or Southern magnolia. It usually becomes 20m.(approximately 65ft.) But the tree we found was not so tall.Sometimes we meet our friends.Sometimes Satori and Leila are checking if their Papa is doing OK.
Sometimes we have a secret Mama-daughter talk.Sometimes we go shopping.

See!
We can enjoy even the rainy season, too.
In Okinawa, it was announced of the end of the rainy season a few days ago.
We are looking forward to the summer to come.
